PI Expert and PI Xls are part of the PI Expert Suite 6.x from PI. Download your free copy of this software today!.

During the creation process, you'll be required to:

• Select a core and Bobbin that is supported by at least one of the RTSS vendors listed on the Component Suppliers pages.
  • In PI Xls the core selection is manual.
  • In PI Expert the Autodesign feature may select a core that is not available in the RTSS. See the Manually Selecting a Core Size in PI Expert guide for information on manual transformer selection in PI Expert.
• Check to ensure that the completed design is error-free, then save and close the design:
  • For PI Expert Design Passed should be displayed
  • For PI Xls there should be no warnings in the Info column (Read Checking PI Transformer Designer Results for more information.)

PI Transfomer Designer will be added to your system when you download and install PI Expert Suite 6.X.

• To launch this tool, click on the PI Transformer Designer icon ()
    OR
  click on Start -> Programs -> Power Integrations -> PI Expert Suite 6.x.
• Open your design file (either from PI Expert or PI Xls).

Once the design is open, you can make any modifications that are required. (For example, you can change the pin assignment, specify the exact number of bobbin pins, or adding shield windings for reduced EMI).

For tips on how to make these changes, see the PI Transformer Designer help system. Note that, for most designs, the default calculations will be appropriate.

Step 4 – Save design

PI Transformer Designer appends the mechanical transformer information to the original design file. Once saved in PI Transformer Designer, the design file complies with the requirements of the Rapid Transformer Sample Service.
