PeakSwitch® Product Family

Enhanced, Energy-Efficient, Off-Line Switcher IC with Super Peak Power Performance

PI-3995
Typical Peak Power Application

Description:

  • Simple ON/OFF control, no loop compensation needed
  • Delivers peak power of up to 3 times maximum continuous output power
  • 277 kHz operation during peak power significantly reduces transformer size
  • Tight I2f tolerances and negligible temperature variation of key parameters ease design and lower cost
  • Adaptive on-time extension increases low line peak output power and minimizes bulk capacitor size
  • Programmable smart AC line sensing provides latching shutdown during short circuit, overload and open loop faults and prevents ON/OFF glitches during power down or brownout

Applications:

  • Ideal for applications with large peak to continuous
    load ratio requirements

    • Inkjet printer
    • Data storage
    • Audio amplifier
    • DC motor drives

    EcoSmart® - Extremely Energy-Efficient
    • Green RoomNo-load consumption <50 mW with bias winding and <250 mW without bias winding at 265 VAC input
    • Meets Blue Angel, Energy Star and EC requirements

Design Ideas
DI-128

Variable-speed DC Motor Drive

  • Replaces a two-stage, linear power supply and chopper
circuit with a simple, single-stage design
  • Eliminates the chopper circuits normally used to
achieve variable-speed control of DC motors
  • Motor speed is controllable by a small potentiometer or
    a 3.6 V to 10 V variable DC voltage
  • Low component count: only 47 parts
  • Efficiency: ≥77% (at a load of 35 W)
  • Meets EN55022 B conducted EMI limits
  • ON/OFF control scheme is stable
DI-115

Wide Range DVD Player

  • Multiple output power supply
  • Excellent cross regulation
  • Two outputs sum-regulated
  • Highly energy efficient
  • 0.6 W output power for 1 W input available
  • Low no-load power consumption (<150 mW at 230 VAC)
  • Meets CEC/ENERGY STAR 2008 requirements for active mode efficiency (77.7% vs. 68.1% requirement)
  • Meets CISPR-22/EN55022B conducted EMI limits
  • >10 dBmV margin
  • Auto-restart withstands shorted output condition indefinitely
DI-145

Portable Game Player Power Supply

  • Highly energy efficient
  • Meets CEC/ENERGY STAR 2008 requirements for active mode efficiency (74.6 % vs. 70.5% requirement)
  • Very low no-load power consumption (<100 mW at 230 VAC)
  • Meets CISPR-22/EN55022B conducted EMI limits with 10 dBmV margin
  • Extended protection features
  • Optional latching Overvoltage Protection (OVP)
  • Optional latching Over-Current Protection (OCP)
  • Integrated hysteretic thermal shutdown provides over temperature protection (OTP)
  • Auto-restart withstands shorted output condition indefinitely
