ErP Ecodesign Directive Standards Finder Updated

December 15, 2011 - There have been a number of changes in the Ecodesign Directive for ErPs this year. Hopefully, you've read some of the blogs. Some of this year's stories included:

The specs for these and other updates can be easily accessed using Power Integrations' ErP Standards Finder. The Standards Finder allows users to select an application and view the ErP Ecodesign limits for standby, active-mode, and no-load power consumption. Links to relevant Power Integrations reference designs are also displayed in the search results.

Here's a sampling of what's new in PI's ErP Standards Finder:

Domestic Lighting Specs for the directional category are in development. A Working Document circulated with a Consultation Forum held in September 2011.
Televisions

Tier 2 standby levels took effect in August 2011. These are:

0.5 W: Reactivation function

1 W: Display with reactivation Additionally, power consumption in OFF mode must be <0.3 W unless TV has a visible OFF switch which puts the TV in a condition consuming ≤ 0.01 W in OFF; then the power of any other OFF mode condition of the TV ≤ 0.5 W.

Networked Product Standby

The working document proposal is currently being discussed in the Consultation Forum. The proposal would amend current standby standard and would affect most household products that have network capability. Applications would be split into two levels of network availability, based on reactivation time:

  • High Network Availability (HiNA) has a quick reactivation time of < 1 second
  • Low Network Availability (LoNA) has a slower reactivation time of ≥ 1 second

Power consumption for tier 1 is being proposed at 12 W for HiNA and 4 W for LoNA; tier 2 is proposed at 8 W for HiNA and 2 W for LoNA.

Other product categories in the ErP Standards Finder that were revised or updated include:

  • Air conditioners
  • Audio Amplifiers
  • Boilers
  • Coffee Machines
  • Computers Notebook/Netbook
