Notebook Adapter Applications
Power Integrations offerings include integrated, high-voltage ICs for off-line power conversion in Notebook Adapter power supply applications. Notebook Adapter applications utilize the TOPSwitch-HX family’s largest devices, which enable highly efficient and compact laptop power supplies to be in a sealed enclosure and to withstand ambient temperatures up to 40 °C.
TOPSwitch-HX is also available in a ultra-low-profile package (L Package), that enables remarkably slim, compact, and lightweight power supplies from 20 to 100 watts. The elegance of adapter designs enabled by the new package is demonstrated by a new reference design (DER-196) for a 65 W notebook adapter only slightly larger than a standard deck of playing cards (see pictures below).
Each IC includes a 700 V power MOSFET with a feature-rich PWM controller in one device. Features include current limiting and thermal shutdown with automatic fault recovery capability to improve reliability, frequency jittering to reduce EMI and EcoSmart® technology to dramatically reduce standby energy waste.
Product Families Used in These Applications
| IC Product Family | Typical Circuit Configuration | Power/Current Ratings | Description |
| TOPSwitch®-JX | Flyback | 12 W to 177 W | Integrated Off-Line Switcher with EcoSmart® Technology for Highly Efficient Power Supplies |
| TOPSwitch®-HX | Flyback | Up to 254 W | Incorporates a 700 V power MOSFET, high voltage switched current source, PWM control, oscillator, thermal shutdown circuit, fault protection and other control circuitry onto a monolithic device. |
