What's New with Europe's ErP Ecodesign Directive?
July 19, 2012 - The first half of 2012 has brought some movement to the European Commission's Ecodesign Directive for ErPs. Potential regulation drafts (known as Working Documents) for a number of products have been distributed for discussion in Regulatory Committees. The lot that affects room air conditioners, Lot 10, has been approved and will become effective early next year.
Product categories with Working Documents include electric pumps (TREN Lot 11) and domestic and commercial hobs and grills (ENER Lot 23). (For those of you who don't know what a "hob" is, it's a cook stove top.) Links to the working documents for these new lots can be found on the Green Room's EC ErP Ecodesign Directive page.
Noteworthy updates to existing lots are:
|Lot 10 - Room Air Conditioners||Tier 1 - goes into effect in Jan. 2013: |
Additional Efficiency Requirements:
Tier 2 - goes into effect in Jan. 2014:
|TREN Lot 19 - Directional Lighting||A draft regulation for a possible Ecodesign and Energy Labeling Requirement for Lot 19 was just published in advance of the Regulatory Committee meeting.|
The specs for updates can be found using Power Integrations' ErP Standards Finder. The Standards Finder allows you to select an application and view the Ecodesign limits for standby, active-mode, and no-load power consumption.
Other product categories in the ErP Standards Finder that were revised or updated recently include:
- Clothes Dryers
- Coffee machines
- Microwave Ovens
- Set-top Boxes
